Put Explicit Instruction into practice with your science team (and win!)

Complete Stile Academy’s new Explicit Instruction module with your science department for the chance to win your school’s 2027 Stile subscription.

Put Explicit Instruction into practice with your science team (and win!)

To celebrate the launch of our latest Stile Academy module on Explicit Instruction, we’re running a competition: Have your department complete the Explicit Instruction module and go in the draw to win a free 2027 Stile subscription for your school*.

What is Stile Academy?

Stile Academy is a Professional Learning system that’s included with your Stile subscription. Its modules bring together research, short explanations, real classroom footage and questions that help you think about your own teaching.

Within a module, you learn about the research behind evidence-based teaching practices, choose a small change to try with your students, test it out and reflect on what happened within Stile. Chloe, your Stile Learning Partner, is there along the way. She reads and responds to your work and can help with coaching, advice or, when required, a corny science joke.

The Stile Sprint Cycle

Each Stile Academy module follows the same five-part cycle.

Taking part doesn't mean you need to overhaul the way you teach. The aim is to make one useful change and give it enough time to become part of your practice.

The new Explicit Instruction module

The latest Stile Academy module looks at how Explicit Instruction helps students make sense of new scientific ideas.

In the module, you’ll learn how to:

  • Break new concepts into clear, manageable steps
  • Use Stile to model your thinking and share worked examples
  • Guide students through structured practice
  • Respond to student understanding while the lesson is happening

You’ll also see examples of Stile teachers using explicit instruction in their classrooms and look at how it works alongside the 5E model.

Once you finish, you’ll receive a digital certificate recognising your professional learning hours and listing the relevant AITSL Teaching Standards.

Complete the module with your team, and you could win

To mark the release of the module, we’re running the Stile Academy Explicit Instruction Sprint.

The Sprint opens on 27 July and closes at the end of 31 August.

If every member of your science department completes the module during that time, your school will go into the draw to win:

  • a credit covering your school’s 2027 Stile subscription, up to $25,000 AUD (inc. GST)
  • a catered lunch for your science department, up to $2,500 AUD (inc. GST)

How to enter

Your Head of Science or nominated Stile admin can register by completing the form linked below. If each member of the department has finished the module by 31 August, your school receives an entry into the draw.

Competition FAQ

Who can enter?

The competition is open to Australian schools with a current Stile subscription.

Entries must come from the school’s science department or science faculty. Other departments cannot enter.

Who should register our department?

The Head of Science or the school’s nominated Stile account administrator needs to complete the registration.

Who should we include in our teacher count when we register?

You’ll need to provide the number of teachers in your science department when you complete the registration form. This should include all teachers in your science department or faculty who teach the year levels for which your school is subscribed. We may check the registration against your school’s active accounts or ask you to confirm the size of your department. A registration can be rejected if active science teachers have been left off the list.

Does everyone need to complete the module?

Yes. Every counted member of the registered department must finish the module.

Do we all need to complete it at the same time?

No. Teachers can work through the module when it suits them during the Sprint. Everyone must finish by the end of 31 August.

What counts as completing the module?

Each teacher must complete every lesson in the Explicit Instruction module and receive a pass result in the assessment. Stile’s records will be used to confirm completion.

What if someone is on extended leave?

Teachers on approved extended leave, including parental leave, long-service leave, extended sick leave or sabbatical leave, do not need to be counted in your department numbers. Casual relief teachers and some teachers who join or leave during the competition period may also be excluded.

How many entries can our school receive?

Each eligible school can receive one entry in the draw.

How will the winner be chosen?

The winning school will be selected at random from all valid entries. Every valid entry has an equal chance of being drawn.

Is it free to enter?

Yes. There is no entry fee for schools with a current Stile subscription, and the winner will not need to pay to accept the prize.

What does the winner receive?

The prize includes a credit towards the winning school’s Stile subscription for the 2027 school year, up to $25,000 AUD (incl. GST). The science department will also receive a catered lunch worth up to $2,500 AUD (incl. GST). The prize cannot be transferred, exchanged or redeemed for cash.

When will the winner be announced?

The winning school will be contacted by email within two business days of the draw. The draw will be conducted at Level 10, 136 Exhibition Street, Melbourne at 11 am on 1 September 2026 (AEST) using a computerised random selection tool that gives each valid entry a random and equal chance of being drawn.
